How We Calculate Senior Living Costs
Our senior living cost estimates are built using current public community pricing and other qualified research. We use the best available market data today and continue improving estimates as additional pricing becomes available.
Where the numbers come from
Estimates are built from current public community pricing and other qualified market research. Communities publish pricing in different ways — base rent, starting rates, or care-inclusive rates — so we record what each source actually states.
How estimates are calculated
We group qualified pricing observations by care type and market, then calculate a representative monthly starting cost. Estimates reflect starting costs rather than all-inclusive prices.
Best available geography
When local market data is available, we use it. Where it is limited, we show a broader state or national estimate and label the geographic scope of the number you're seeing.
Continuous improvement
Our research set grows over time. As additional pricing becomes available, estimates are recalculated so the figures reflect the best available market data.
What estimates are not
These figures are for planning purposes. Actual pricing varies by community, location, apartment, services, and individual care needs. Only a community can quote your actual rate.
